On Wednesday, April 12, 2017, Mary was able to meet the Lord and Savior that she talked of so often. She was born on October 12,1944 to John and Mildred Yonker. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Yonker. Mary is survived by her husband Rev. John W. Hill (West Oshtemo Baptist Church), children Julie (David) Taylor, Maria (Nathan) Johnson, Lynda Hill, Larry Hill, Steve (Vicky) Hill, sister Julie (Dale) Steigenberg, many grandchildren who cherished her, and many other extended family members and friends who loved her.

Mary attended Portage Central High School and Western Michigan University, graduating in 1970 with a Master’s Degree, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. She taught English and Writing through the years and retired from KVCC in 2014, but still enjoyed teaching Writing and Spanish to her grandsons weekly. John and Mary were married on January 30,1965, and she spent the next 52 years passionately taking care of him and her family. Mary was a fun, witty, generous lady who gave freely to many.

She was a prayer warrior with much energy and a love for life. She loved singing, sewing, painting on canvas, and always had a great love for animals. She loved to write poetry and journal, and leaves a legacy in writing for her family. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her husband and family, and her church family meant so much to her. She loved rummaging through second-hand stores, and she never missed an episode of Jeopardy. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but we know she is “riding a white stallion in Heaven” as she told her grandson she would.
