Details: Mary Katharine Heyl Walton, of Gibson Island, MD, died peacefully at home on Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2015, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by her three children and two caregivers. Mary was 86 years old. A beloved mother and wife, Mary was born in Bryn Mawr, PA, on September 7, 1928. She was the only daughter of John Bernard Heyl and Mary Laura Scull Heyl of Wynnewood, PA. Mary attended the Agnes Irwin School and graduated from the Baldwin School in 1946 and Brown University in 1950. Mary married Robert Elliott Walton on April 22, 1952 at All Saints’ Church in Wynnewood, PA. The couple moved to York, PA, where Mary taught math and science for several years at York Country Day School. In 1963, the couple settled permanently on Gibson Island, MD. Mary, an active community member, belonged to both the Junior League and Daughters of the American Revolution. On Gibson Island, Mary was President of the Garden Club and the Women’s Guild of St.
