Mary K. (Murphy) Towns of Plymouth passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on January 11. As high school sweethearts, she was the beloved wife of the late William E. Towns who passed away in 2012. She was born in Boston, Mass on July 9, 1928, where she also received her education. During the time her husband William served as a Boston Police Officer, Mary served as President of the Boston Police Wives Association. As a practicing Catholic, Mary was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church in Boston.A new chapter started in her life after Mary and Bill moved to Boot Pond in Plymouth, Mass. Mary worked at the Telephone Company as a Customer Service Representative. She became a parishioner of St. Peter Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. After retiring, she worked in the Plymouth Public School System. Mary worked in several schools; Cold Springs being the last. She had a deep loving, caring and dedicated way about her. She touched so many lives and especially the children. Mary had a passion for reading to the children in the school library. After retiring from the school department, Mary and Bill moved from Boot Pond to Pine Hills becoming a parishioner of St. Bonaventure and her beloved “Bill” had many home get-togethers to celebrate friendships. Mary and Bill always made a weekly date night of dinner and dancing the night away. She and Bill also travelled Many places by themselves or with family and friends. A couple of the Many places travelled were: Ireland, England, Germany, Australia and over ten cruises to many islands. Her niche was being in the kitchen; always making a delightful meal, baking breads, etc. Nothing gave her more joy than to have her family with her. Mary was the daughter of the late Frederick M. and Mary Catherine (Griffin) Murphy, and sister of the late Frederick Murphy and Irene King. She is survived by her daughters Diane Hanelt of Sandwich, Denise and husband Frederick Pegurri of Holbrook, Doreen Towns of Duxbury, her son Bradley and wife Melissa Towns of Newbury. She was the mother of the late Barry Towns who passed in 2020. She was the Cherished grandmother of Tracy (Drislane) Hanelt, Jason Hanelt, Blair Hanelt, Tina(Visalli) Pegurri, Frederick Pegurri, Alison, Kaley, Barrett, and Jaime Towns, Keith and wife Megan Potter, and Shawn Potter. Also survived by great grandchildren Nathan, Harrison, Nolan Drislane, Maxine Hanelt.
