Mary Josephine (Jo) Dixon Mrs. Mary Jo Dixon, 83, of Salem, West Virginia, passed from this life on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Northampton Manor Health Care Center, Frederick, Maryland, due to complications from surgery. She was born Mary Josephine Crothers on August 25, 1927, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Samuel Sylvester Crothers and the late Mary Ellen Gary. She was a graduate of Dunbar Township High School, Leisenring, Pennsylvania, in the class of 1945. In October 1946, while employed for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, she married Charles E. Dixon, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, her husband for more than 62 years. A permanent resident of the Clarksburg-Salem area for the balance of her life, Jo worked for the Maidenform Company for several years, and later worked for and retired from the Harrison Rural Electrification Association. Throughout her retired years, Jo continued to pursue an active lifestyle. She worked part time for Beacon Wealth Management in Clarksburg. She was a member of the Harrison County Silver Haired Legislature, the Sardis Lion’s Club, the Sardis Community Center, and was a volunteer worker at the local Humane Society Thrift Shop. Jo was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 2009. She is survived by her only child, daughter Susan C. (Jones) Higgins and husband Roy Higgins, of Frederick, MD; three grandchildren: Kelley C. Jones and wife Jessica of Mount Clare, WV; Meredith K. (Jones) Adkins and husband James Adkins of Petersburg, WV; and Matthew K. Jones and wife Stacy of Gambrills, MD; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Janice E. Freeman of Lubbock, TX; and a brother, Kenneth A. Chapman of Plainview, TX.
