Breneman, “Mary Jo” passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Age 86. Mary Jo was born in Minneapolis, MN on October 16, 1927, the daughter of the late Hans and Ida Halvorsen Helmerson.
She attended Gustavus Adolphus College, where she belonged to the Alpha Phi Sorority. She was married to Dr. James Breneman in 1946; he survives her. She served as office manager of Suburban Medical Center for many years. She belonged to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She served as Past President of the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine Auxiliary and Past Vice-Chairman of the Kalamazoo Republican Party. She belonged to the Michigan State Medical Society Auxiliary, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Auxiliary, Borgess Service League, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra League, and the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
Surviving besides her husband are one son and one daughter, Lisa Peter Reed of Kalamazoo and C.J. Breneman of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Grant Wayne Breneman; with three brothers, and two sisters.
