Mary “Jeanne” Logan, beloved mother, passed away peacefully in Canon City, Colorado on February 13, 2014. Jeanne was born Mary Jeanne Watkins on May 16, 1925 to Howard Rice Watkins and Mary O’Brien Watkins in Hubbard, Ohio. Jeanne grew up in Ohio, Florida and California before entering nursing school.
Jeanne received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland and began her lifelong career in nursing rehabilitating wounded soldiers returning from combat in the Pacific and Europe during World War II. It was there she met & fell in love with Matthew Elmer “Lou” Logan. They were united in marriage in 1948, settling in Hyattsville, Maryland. During this union they welcomed two sons, Dennis and Kevin.
Jeanne and her sons moved to Pueblo, Colorado in 1979 working as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary Corwin & Parkview Hopsitals. In 1980 she settled her family in Canon City and began working at the Colorado State Veterans Home. While working there and raising two boys on her own, Jeanne received her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
She devoted her second career to volunteering with the Fremont County Fine Arts Center, the American Heart Association and the Canon City Pregnancy Center.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Lou, parents, Howard & Mary Watkins, sister, Dr. Sallie Watkins, and brother, Howard Watkins. Jeanne is survived by her loving sons Dennis (Misty) Logan of Canon City and Kevin (Caroline) Logan of Meadow Vista, California; grandchildren Matthew & Jason Logan of Canon City; Ryan, Grant & Colin Logan of Meadow Vista, California; nephew Mike Watkins and niece Cathleen Watkins of Los Angeles, California.
Jeanne will be deeply missed.
