Mary Jane Leeper, age 85, of Salem, Ohio died at 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Essex of Salem II. She was born December 27, 1926 in Salem, a daughter of the late Russell L. and Edith L. (Ward) Whinery. Mrs. Leeper was a 1943 graduate of Salem High School and attended Mount Union College from 1943 to 1945 before transferring to Muskingum College where she graduated in 1947 with a degree in Dietetics. She retired September 1, 1986 as Director of Dietetics after working 32 years at the Salem Community Hospital. Mary Jane had previously spent a year as a dietetic intern at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland. She was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church and a member of the Fadely Guild of the church. Her husband, Clair B. Leeper, whom she married April 14, 1950, survives her along with a son, Bill Leeper of Salem; and two nieces and nephews. A sister, Martha Jean White and a brother, Dale Russell Whinery preceded her in death.
