Mary Jane (Lawler) Baker was born on April 20, 1905 in Sylacauga, Alabama to Zack and Mary (Reynolds) Lawler. She attended school in Talladega, Alabama and Tennessee. She was married to Roosevelt Baker on June 25, 1926 for 73 years. He preceded her in death. To this union two children were born Samuel Baker who preceded her in death and a daughter Rosa Mae (Baker) Zinnerman.
She joined the Kelly Spring Baptist Church at an early age. She moved from Talladega in 1941 to Anniston, Alabama. She joined Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1951 under the pastorate of the late Rev. John C. Wilkes. She was a faithful member and a member of the sick and shut in committee and Eastern Star.
Mary Jane had three brothers, Leonard Lawler, Leroy Lawler, Zackary Lawler and two sisters Jenny (W.L) Wilson and Luevine (Robert) McGhee all who have preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted and loving daughter Rosa Mae Zinnerman of Waldorf, MD. Seven Grand children, Verda Mae Zinnerman, Forestville, MD, Rosetta Simmons, LaPlata, MD, Roosevelt Zinnerman (Darleen), NYC, Jacqueline Stitt, Fort Washington, MD., Sheila Griffin (Randy), Florida, Lucinda Coleman (Jeffrey), NYC and Frem Washington of Alabama. 14 Great-grand children and 7 Great, Great-grand children, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
