Mary Jane Johnson passed away in the early morning hours of November 18, 2008 after a five month struggle with cancer.
Mom was born on October 5, 1942, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Walter and Eunice Verstrate. She was the oldest of three children, her brothers being Walter Jr. (Wally) and Richard (Dick). In August of 1952, the family moved to Medford, Oregon. Mom attended local schools and graduated from Medford High School in 1961. She attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland for two years, and then married Kenneth Johnson. Mom and Dad moved to Boulder City, Nevada to work in the casino at Ft Lucinda for a while, then returned to Medford. They had three children together, Brian, Ted, and Stephanie.
In 1977, our family moved to Boise. Mom stayed home and took care of the kids while we were younger, and quite a few of our friends that just happened to come along through the years. After all of the kids were in school, she started to work as a temp, to get out of the house and help the family.
In 1998, Mom and Dad got divorced.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Wally and Harriet Verstrate of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Dick and Sherry Verstrate; her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Kelli Johnson of Meridian, ID, Ted and Rose Johnson of Nampa, ID; her daughter, Stephanie Johnson of Boise, ID; and her grandchildren, Bryn, Parker, Tyler, Hayden, Jaya, and Cloe.
