Mrs. Harris was born to the late Belve and Hattie Fletcher Holden in Limestone County on April 7, 1924. She departed this life on July 31, 2011, at River City Health and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur, Alabama.
Mary and her siblings grew up in a family that taught the importance of being responsible and caring. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death; Percy Lee, Fred, Paul Richard, Milton Holden, Rebecca O’Neal, Vivian Trotter, and Elizabeth Holden, also a step-daughter, Alberta Miller Caudle.
On March 9, 1952, she was united in marriage to the late Willie Harris. Their marriage was a loving and caring bond. She was a native of Limestone County, but spent most of her life in Decatur, AL.
“Ma-Ma” as she was affectionately known to everyone never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew her. She retired as a caregiver employed by the State of Alabama and attended nursing school.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted son, William Thomas Holden, a devoted daughter-in-law, Carrie Holden, a special step-daughter, Mrs. Minnie Bass, a devoted granddaughter Carolyn Holden, whom she raised as her own, three sisters, Martha Owens, Huntsville, AL, Marie Patton, Athens, AL and Catherine Gooch of Nashville, TN, grandchildren, Linda (James) Allen, William Holden and Kasandra Holden, nine great-grandchildren, a devoted great-grandchild, Charlandria Jackson, three great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
