Mary Jane Cioccio, known as Jane to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2016, in Petoskey, Michigan, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Jane Towne was born on February 20, 1923, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Perry Towne and Viola (Voss) Towne. During her childhood, the family moved frequently for her father’s job, settling in Kansas City for most of her high school years, and moving again to Florida for her Senior year. She went on to study at the Florida State College for Women (which later became Florida State University), where she was active in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. After graduation near the end of WWII, Jane and her good friend Nel moved to Washington, DC, where she worked for the DC Public Library and later for the CIA.

While downtown taking photos at the Eisenhower inauguration, Jane met Armand Cioccio. They were married on the day after Christmas in 1953, and resided in Wheaton, Maryland for many years, with their two children, John and Jeanne. Jane was active in the ZTA alumnae association and the American Association of University Women, and was an avid golfer in later years. In 1998 she moved to the Heartlands retirement Community in Ellicott City, MD, where she lived until moving to Michigan last fall.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Armand. She is survived by her daughter Jeanne and son-in-law Mike Kincaid of Harbor Springs, MI, and son John and daughter-in-law Ellen of Columbia, MD; grandchildren Kate Kincaid, Matt Kincaid, Emily Padgett, Krysta Kincaid, and Annie Cioccio; great grandchildren James, Amelia, Joee, and Kadynce; plus many other loving family and friends.
