Mary Jane Anderson, 65 of Great Falls, passed away on Oct. 12, 2014 of natural causes.
Mary was born Sept. 12, 1949 in Crookston MN to Robert & Pearl Lund. She was raised in Clearbrook MN and graduated from Clearbrook High in 1968. In her younger years she worked at various hospitals throughout northern Minnesota as a CNA and later as an LPN. She married David Sundquist in 1975 and the couple moved to Montana four years later. Mary fell in love with the state and made it her permanent home.
In 1985, after ten years of marriage, she and David were divorced. Mary moved to Great Falls and found a fresh start working as a contractor for Malmstrom Air Force Base, which she did until 1990 when she decided to become a cosmetologist. She worked for several beauty shops around town before opening her own salon, Montana Girl Hair and Nails. This helped her to fully enjoy her passion in life, which was helping people. In 2005 Mary was wed to Gordon James Gies. The two were happily married for nine years before Gordon’s passing in 2014.
Mary loved bowling. She was on several leagues and was recognized in the Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. She also enjoyed watching sports of any kind. Her main joy in life, however, came from raising and being with her three daughters.
Mary is survived by daughters, Karen Lund, Brandy Johnson, and Peggy Kidrick, all of Great Falls, and nine grandchildren.
Those who have preceded her in death include her husband, Gordon Gies; brothers, Robert and Donald Lund; sister, Peggy Sather; and her parents.
