PEORIA – Mary J. (Horn) Bierwirth, 75, of Peoria passed away at 11:30 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014, at her home.

Mary was born in Peoria on March 9, 1938, to John W. and Frances (Woodward) Horn.

Her husband, Roger Bierwirth; and her parents preceded her in death.

Mary retired from Proctor Hospital in 2000 after 17 years as a pharmacy technician and enjoyed retired life by traveling throughout the country and living in Arizona and Texas, prior to returning to Peoria.

Mary was a graduate of Peoria High School, class of 1956. She cherished the friendship of her friends that she has known since childhood.

Mary also enjoyed cooking and was an avid knitter, often making items for her family and for soldiers serving overseas.

Mary is survived by her brothers, David (Connie) Pryor of Richmond, VA and John (Delores) Horn of Norfolk, VA. Mary is also survived by her children, Guy (Rebecca) Homann of Marquand, MO, Bruce (Lisa) Homann of New Braunfels, TX, and Toni Homann of Peoria. Mary had 6 grandchildren, Tabitha Haworth of Wheatland, CA, Steven Homann of Sheridan, CA, Jessica Utley of Farmington, IL, Brook Kromphardt and Morgan Kromphardt, both of Peoria, IL, and Domonique Lestrade of Ocean Springs, MS; 2 step-grandchildren, Jamie Alexander of Springfield, MO and Ty Alexander of Fredericktown, MO; 8 great-grandchildren, Haley and Rosie Haworth of Wheatland, CA, Laci and Lance Homann of Sheridan, CA; Savannah and Jacob Lestrade of Ocean Springs, MS and Lydia and Jaxon Utley of Farmington, IL; 5 step-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Aaron, Dillan and Kayden Alexander of Fredericktown, MO and Austin Walkmeyer of Springfield, MO.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Mary’s nurses, Tammy and Susan, for their love and compassion to their mother and grandmother.
