Mary Irene Jones, of Vicksburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 2, 2022. Irene was born on July 23,1922 in the Lodi community of Montgomery County to Frank and Verona McCain. She married her sweetheart, Bradford Jones, on November 13, 1942. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before his death in 1998.
Irene graduated from high school in Richey, Mississippi, and continued her education by attending business school in Vicksburg. Irene began her work career in the office of S. H. Kress, where she worked for several years before devoting her time and talents to raise her children. She furthered her education in the 60’s through a floral design correspondence course. After completing the course, she enjoyed many years at Helen’s Florist as a floral designer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Verona McCain; three sisters, Viola Ratliff; Lydia Mae Fortner; and Cora Lee Rowe; a brother, Fred McCain; her husband, Bradford Jones; and countless friends. She is survived by her daughter Renee Rodgers (Richard), her son Brad Jones (Nancy), five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her friend Jane Cotton-Hanes.
Irene looked forward to her 100th birthday, and celebrated this milestone in July with her family. She was an exemplary wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who loved and gave of herself without restraint. Everyone who knew and loved her will miss her sense of humor, love of life, creativity, wisdom, and gentle, persevering spirit. Irene accepted Christ at age 14. She spent her remaining 86 years faithfully serving her Lord and finishing her race with a life well-lived.
