Mary Lynn passed away on Nov. 20, 2011, after a brief illness.
Mary Lynn was born on March 6, 1940, in Oakland, but was raised a Southern California girl. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1957, attended nursing school at California Hospital and received an AA from Moorpark College.
Known as Minnie to her family and friends, she was a life-long fan of country music.
In 1964 while living in the San Fernando Valley she met Bill Hinkle, another country music fan and LA beach lifeguard. A year later they married and embarked on a 46-year honeymoon.
In the second year of their marriage they had their first son Paul. The next year Chris was born. Minnie was a stay at home mom during the early years of their marriage while Bill worked and went to law school. In 1971 the Hinkles moved to Newbury Park where they raised their sons and Bill worked as a deputy district attorney for the County of Ventura.
In the early 1980s Minnie and her family moved to the Hol-lywood Beach area to be closer to the ocean. To get out of the house, Minnie took a clerical job with the Hueneme School District. One day while Minnie and Bill were out walking they passed by Hollywood Beach School. What a great place to work, he observed. Before long things just fell into place and Minnie became the office manager there.
Hollywood Beach School, the students and faculty became, after her family, the second love of her life. She retired in June 2000, after a first open heart surgery. It was her faulty heart that took her to the other side.
Minnie is survived by her husband, Bill; son, Paul and his wife Diane and their two children, Victoria and Blake, all of Bakersfield where Paul is a deputy sheriff and Diane an elementary school teacher. Her second son Christopher and wife Stacy have three children, Ryan, Steven and Mikey all of Camarillo where Chris is an attorney and Stacy his office manager.
Minnie and Bill were avid sailors and owned one sailboat or another during their entire married life.
A private celebration of this incredible woman’s life was held this past weekend.
