Mary was born in Emporia, Virginia on February 22, 1932, to Ida P. Greenway-Jackson and Lee Roy Mayes. She was married to Alexander Augustus Campbell who predeceased her in 1963.
Over several decades, Mary was a diligent and hard-working single mother, raising three children. She worked numerous tough jobs including the hot tobacco fields of Consolidated Cigar Corp (CCC) in Portland, CT and Middletown Wire and Cable in Middletown, CT. She earned her retirement from her final job as a machine operator for Monsanto Chemical Company in Deep River, CT. Mary’s most rewarding employment was running her own Day Care Center from her home on 53 Silver St, Middletown, CT. She also enjoyed taking care of Senior Citizens so that they remained in their homes and not the hospitals or nursing homes.
Mary was predeceased by her mother, Ida P. Jackson and father, Lee Roy Mayes of Emporia, VA; brother, Harry Greenway of Washington, DC; daughter, Joaney L. Campbell of Middletown, CT; and granddaughter Cimberly A. Campbell-Leach of Waterbury, CT.
To cherish her memory, Mary leaves her son Charles Campbell of Mitchellville, MD; daughter Linda Wilks of Middletown, CT; sister, Ethel Mae McQuiller of Meriden, CT; granddaughters: Tynell Campbell-Sellman of Upper Marlboro, MD; Kyle Wilks of Middletown, CT; Sharee Campbell of Columbia, MD; grandsons: Keyd Wilks of East Hartford, CT; and Shaun, Mark & Matthew Campbell of Middletown, Ct.; great grandchildren: Jovan & Devon Picard, Darren Kelley, Sierra & Sincere Leach, Amya and Joseph Johnson IV, Lauryn & Lexus Wilks, J’Lynn, King L., Zhara & Nova Campbell; great-great grandchildren: Josiah Valentin, Zynae Allen, and Antoine Fleming; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends and acquaintances.
