Mary Geraldine Burke, 89, of Galesburg, died peacefully at home Thursday, June 28, 2018.
She was born January 11, 1929 in Galesburg, the daughter of William and Catherine (Hoben) Murray. She married James Frederick Burke on May 24, 1952 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1981. Gerry is survived by one son, Crescent (Debbie) Burke of Springfield; five daughters, Lorraine (Rick) Gottenborg and Annie (David) McCammon both of Galesburg, Judy (Scott) Giles of Cary, Bess (Dave) Cratty and Maureen (Mike) Holloway both of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Gerry graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1947. She then worked at May Company in Galesburg for a few years prior to owning and operating Burke’s Package Liquor with her husband for many years. She then worked at Holt’s Plumbing and spent the last 25 years working for the American Red Cross.
The Kitchen at the Red Cross was named in Gerry’s honor for her many years of dedication. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. To Gerry family was everything. If she was not working, her time was spent with her family. Her love and support will be greatly missed.
