Mary Gamble Marqua, age 92, beloved wife of the late Charles Edward Marqua, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family in Fairfield, on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Born in Hinsdale, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude Gamble, she had been a Fairfield resident since 2008.
During the Depression, Mary lived in France with her sister and mother. She attended Miami University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority in Coral Gables, FL. In August of 1943 she married Charles E. Marqua of Cincinnati, OH. Together they raised eight children, traveling extensively due to Charles’ career as an airline pilot. They lived for three years in Guatemala City, six years in Rio de Janeiro, and moved back to the United States in 1954. Mrs. Marqua taught pre-school at the First United Methodist Nursery School in Stamford.
She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who delighted in time spent with her large family. Survivors include six beloved children, Catherine de Mena of Guatemala, Charles Marqua of Stratford, Richard Marqua of Fairfield, Mearah Marqua of Kauai, HI, Matthew Marqua of Branford and Jay Marqua of Durango, CO; she is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Charles, she was predeceased by two children, Theresa Kistler and Mary Elizabeth Marqua.
