Mary G. (Titus) Cantrell, of Penrose Colorado, passed away December 26, 2014. Born April 7, 1924, in Colorado Springs, she was a life-long resident of the Pikes Peak area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas V. and Pearl E. Titus; sisters, Ruth Haines and Ruby Jacksey; and brother, Walter Titus. Nephews Robbie Haines, Steve Titus, and Roger Stinson also preceded her in death. She loved the western lifestyle, and raised, trained, and showed both quarter and paint horses throughout her life. She belonged to several riding clubs and participated in the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo and numerous parades. She operated the Valley Hi Riding stables and lived and taught riding at the Rock Ledge Ranch (White House Ranch), in the Garden of the Gods. She joined the U.S. Navy during WWII, training in New York City, and then was stationed in California. She was a member of the American Legion. She worked for the Colorado Springs Police Department in the late 1950’s as a meter maid and dispatcher. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing, camping, fishing, golf, and bowling. Mary simply enjoyed life and her family. She will be sadly missed by her son, John S. Schleyer; nieces and nephews, Mike and Lynn Oliver of Penrose, Unis and Jim Burke of Rush, Camille Oliver of Denver, Laural and Paul Fanelli of Colorado Springs, Sabra Chambers of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Larry Hines of Denver; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as her friends, carol Jenkins, Ardy Munsen, Marie Richardson, Dorothy Moore, Nancie Wright, and many more.
