Mary Glosson Williams surrendered her 91 years of life to make a change of address early Monday morning, January 7, 2013. God called her home, no more crying, no more pain.
Mary Glosson Williams, beloved daughter of the late Eugene Glosson and Lena Johnson Glosson was born October 17,1921 in Hendersonville, N.C.; she was the sixth of seven children of whom the oldest child succumbed as an infant.
Mary moved to the District of Columbia at an early age attending Randall Junior High School and graduating from Cardozo High School. Upon completion of high school, Mary decided that she was independent enough to make it on her own. She accepted employment in the Federal Government and was well on her way. As a matter of fact her desire for independence worked to her advantage, leading her to work for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon until her retirement. Mary loved sewing and was quite fashionable with her designs. She later made costumes and other craft items for her children and grandchildren.
In their youth, the late Norman Williams and Mary Glosson were married, after sharing a longtime friendship that developed in junior high school. The two enjoyed traveling and socializing with family and friends and from their union they were blessed with two sons; Norman E. and Ronald A. Williams, bringing years of happiness and great joy in their home on Decatur Street, in N.W. Washington, DC. Mary’s soft spoken voice, her love for family and friends and her special attention to family will be missed. She leaves to mourn her passing, one last sister, Susie G. Wilson, Sons Norman E. Williams (Marie) and Ronald A. Williams of Washington, DC. Granddaughters: LaVonda (Emmanuel) Brown, Nashawn (John) Taylor, and Nicole Garner; One grandson, Norman E. Williams, four great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
