Mary Francis (Sullivan) Griffin, former resident of Woodhaven, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the age of 87 years, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 24, 1932 in Centerville, Tennessee, as the only daughter of the late James Sullivan and Daisy Sullivan (Neeley), the family moved to Detroit, Michigan when Mary was 12. She was preceded in death by her only brother, William Sullivan (Alice) of St. Orange, Florida. Mary, along with her former husband Almon Griffin of Sparta, Tennessee, is survived by their children Yuvema Henstock (Steve), Lynda Ridgeway (Terry), Devetta Keller (John), Joe Griffin and Daisy Griffin. Mary was blessed to have 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was given the nickname “Boots” by a dear uncle at a young age due to her love of a white pair of majorette boots she always wore. She was called by this nickname her whole life. “Grandma Boots” will forever be remembered for her sweet sense of humor, generosity, kindness, and love for her family and pets. Mary enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and word searches, playing gin rummy, and going for walks and car rides, especially with her dog Zena on her lap or at her side. Her grandchildren will always remember her fondly as a special caregiver with her warm hugs, quiet nature and unending affection. She loved early mornings, cornbread and beans, Steve Harvey, and listening to wind chimes, song birds, and old country music from the Grand Ole Opry. She will be dearly missed and always cherished by all that knew her.
