She passed away at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at The Arbor by Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born Aug. 27, 1921, in Burnettsville, she was the daughter of Frank and Martha Meeker Pownell. On Aug. 17, 1941, she was married to Jack Regan, who preceded her in death in 2004.

Mary graduated from Burnettsville High School in 1939.

She was an accomplished artist whose dedication was to promote arts in the community. She was given the “Outstanding Community Arts Leader” award by the Cass County Arts Council and the “Suanne Schwering Heart of the Arts Award.”

Mary also enjoyed teaching watercolor and oil painting classes to adults and children.

She was a life-time member of the Logansport Art Association, holding the office of president for several terms, and was active on the board for many years. She was also a long-time honorary member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority, receiving the “Psi Ote of the Year” award in 1988.

Surviving are three daughters, Tonya (Robert) Yirka, Salisbury, Diane (Tac) Welsh, Logansport, and Debra (Robert) Liebrich, Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Jamie (John) Nies, Julie (Jim) Kistler, Emily (Kurt) Brandstatter, Carla Liebrich, Robert Liebrich, Nick (Elizabeth) Venstra, Mary Kay, John and David Venstra; and nine great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Kistler, Brad, Elizabeth and Jonathon Nies, Evan Brandstatter, Iyanah and Skylar Liebrich, and Harold Venstra.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde and Joe Pownell, and sisters, Jean Hook and Louise Pownall.
