Mary Ellen Willmot, 61, of LaSalle, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after a brief illness.
Mary Ellen was born October 17, 1959 in Canton, OH to Mary Willmot of Peru and the late Robert Willmot. Her sisters are Lorraine of Peru and Karen (Peter) Loftus of Scottsdale, AZ. The family moved to the Illinois Valley in 1970 and Mary Ellen graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School with the Class of 1978. Her love of travel led Mary Ellen to a 30-year career in the travel industry, coordinating domestic and international travel for leisure and corporate clients through LaSalle County Travel, Mc Cord Travel Management/World Travel Management in Chicago, and CNA Insurance in Chicago.
Mary Ellen’s gentle, intuitive, artistic, fun-loving, caring and selfless way of life always was centered on her love of family and life-long friends, and making people happy. She found as much joy in sharing her home-cooked meals, hand-crafted jewelry, watercolors and photographs as in sharing an awe-inspiring sunset, the sight of a majestic eagle soaring over the river, camping in northern Wisconsin, and inspirational messages such as one attributed to Benjamin Franklin: “Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight.”She was preceded in death by her father, Robert J. Willmot in 2012 and her grandparents.
