Mary Elizabeth Weimer Oxley, 86, of Addison, Texas, passed away on July 13, 2013, after a long illness.
Born in Knob Noster, Missouri, she married Jack Lynn Oxley in 1947. She was first and foremost a military wife and mother. During her husband’s twenty-year Air Force career, she moved households frequently, and raised 4 children in Alaska, Germany, and numerous assignments throughout the United States. Upon Jack’s retirement with the rank of Lt. Col. in 1965, the family settled in the Dallas area.
Mary Elizabeth was a wonderful homemaker, mother, and grandmother, and she loved and was dearly loved by her family and friends. She was a favorite babysitter to many of her beloved grandbabies, who now surround her with love and many great-grandchildren.
Mary Elizabeth fought valiantly for her life. Both she and her husband were struck by cancer within a year of each other in the late 1980s, and she cared for Jack at home until his death in 1994. Throughout her long battles with first, esophageal cancer and finally, lymphoma, Mary Elizabeth fought her increasingly debilitating illnesses with great courage.
She was blessed to be a patient of oncologist Dr. Charles White, who treated her for thirty years. Her son Phil aided her at home, and her children and grandchildren bore her up with love. Extended family members, neighbors and friends also gave her the gift of kindness and concern.
Preceded in death by her husband, her four sisters, and a brother, Mary Elizabeth is survived by son Gary Oxley and his wife DeDe; son Phil Oxley; son Mark Oxley; and daughter Jackie Lynn Oxley; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. All mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
