Mary Elizabeth (“Betty”) Truitt, 93, died peacefully at her home in Bethesda, MD, April 14, 2015. Mary was born March 9, 1922 in Washington DC. She was raised by her parents with her four siblings on the family farm in Clinton, MD and graduated from Surratsville High School.
She married William Truitt, who died in 2001 after 61 years of marriage. Mary worked for the National Security Agency. She was particularly proud of developing and directing a Learning Center at NSA where she taught language and communication skills.
Mary and her husband Bill loved to travel. She was a gifted educator, gardener and photographer. She had a special talent for capturing nature in her pictures.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Truitt; her younger brother, William Joseph Miller; and her parents, John Anton Miller and Bessie M. (Robbie) Miller. She is survived by her son, William Joseph Truitt and daughter-in-law Gisela Truitt of Silver Spring, MD; two daughters, Gloria Jeon Truitt of Silver Spring, MD and Donna Lee Truitt of Bethesda, MD; her sister Gertrude Goodson of Fairfax, VA; her brothers, Anton Miller and John Miller of Clinton, MD; 16 nieces and nephews; and a multitude of great-nieces and great-nephews.
