Mary E. (Troy) Stankard, of Durham Connecticut, died peacefully at home on January 7, 2020 surrounded by family. She was 102 years old. Born in Morristown, New Jersey on April 4, 1917, she was the only child of Thomas and Mary (Brady) Troy. She attended local schools and later graduated from Saint Vincent Hospital in Manhattan as a Registered Nurse. She went on to work as a nurse for several years.
She is survived by four daughters, Helen Pritchard and her husband Kent of Poughkeepsie New York, Mary Lou Trudel (Robert Deceased) of Portland Connecticut, Eileen DiRosa of Durham, Connecticut and her husband Peter, and Tara McBride of San Francisco, California and a son, William Stankard, Jr. of Ferrum, Virginia. In addition to her children, Mary is survived by eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. William F. Stankard, Sr., daughter Patricia Stankard and her grandson Mathew Pritchard.
Mary was consumed by golf. She would spend hours watching the golf channel and knew all of the golfers past and present. In her own right she was a very good golfer, having played for many years at Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich, Connecticut and Lyman Meadow Golf Club of Durham. She managed to play until she was 93 years old. In addition, she was an avid reader, enjoying the latest mystery novels.
