Mary Elizabeth Pleterski, age 81, of New Smyrna Beach, died Monday August 29, 2022 at Halifax Health Hospital Hospice, Edgewater.

Born September 13, 1940 to Rufus and Sarah Evans, Mary was a lifetime resident of New Smyrna Beach.  She attended Live Oak Elementary School and Live Oak High School and graduated in 1958.  Mary served as a cheerleader for three years at Live Oak High.

She attended Daytona Community College, earning an Associate Science degree and later transferred to UCF. There she achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science.  Mary worked for the Mental Health Association in Daytona Beach, where she was an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor.   Later she opened her own office on Canal Street, New Smyrna Beach and began Private Practice, continuing Alcohol and Drug counseling, while at the same time owned and operated, Mary’s Corner, a gourmet shop that was located on the corner of Canal and Faulkner streets.

Mary was a big help to her husband on their vegetable farm in Samsula and could be seen on Saturday selling produce at the Canal Street Farmer’s Market.  Mary was well known for her delicious perlou. She served on the Board of Directors of the International Herb Association. She was a 60-year member of the SNPJ Fraternal Lodge in Samsula.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; son, James (Jim) Pleterski; daughter, Sara Brown; son-in- law, Steve Brown; two grandchildren, Andrew Brown (his girlfriend, Leslie Galbreath) and Abbie Schlatter (her husband, Chris) and three great-grandchildren.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sarah Ruth Manning; and a brother, Bill Evans.
