She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Anna (Manning) Schmidt; son, Gil Francis Green in infancy in 1960; daughter, Gloria Marie Green Clement in 1989; and daughter-in-law, Penny Green in 2008.
Betty was a graduate of Newton High School in 1937. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines. After attending Drake she worked at FW Woolsworth for 2 years until she enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving in WWII she worked at the Maytag Company in the parts department until she was married. After she was married she was a homemaker.
