Mary Elizabeth Bock, 96, of Shinnston died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Shinnston on October 15, 1916, the daughter of the late Parker M. Hudkins and Gertrude L. Riley Hudkins. She is survived by one daughter Marilyn Slusser and husband James; one grandson Raymond T. Riley of Shinnston; two step-granddaughters Kristy N. Riley Parrish of Shinnston; Valerie Slusser of Rockhill S.C.; four step-great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Elijah Parish of Shinnston; Randall Vallelonga and Dylan Toney both of Rock Hill S.C. She also has several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond W. Bock; her son-in-law David E. Riley. Mary was one of eight children and was the last surviving member of her family; there were four brothers, Abram, Allen, John, and Walter Hudkins; three sisters Josephine Righter Hamner; Lena Wilson, and Edith McDonald McWilliams. Mary has always been an excellent seamstress and made most of her daughter’s clothes for school. She worked for many years as a seamstress of The Hat Shoppe in Shinnston. She also worked for her nephew, Richard Metz, and for Oliver Parrott of Shinnston Appliance for several years. Mary was a long standing member of the Shinnston Woman’s Club, also a member of the First Baptist Church of Shinnston and served for a few years as a deaconess.
