Mary Elizabeth (Merritt) Bartlett, age 71, of Simpson, WV, formerly of Joetown, was surrounded by her family when she joined her heavenly Father, Monday, June 3, 2013. She was born April 19, 1942, in Bridgeport, WV, a daughter of the late Everett James Merritt and Charlotte (Hatten) Merritt, who survives of Grafton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy J. Moyer, in 1969. Her husband of 42 years, Carl E. Bartlett survives, they were united in marriage April 5, 1971. Mary spent her life being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a good cook and particularly enjoyed preparing big meals for her family during the holidays. She loved all of her grandchildren and relished the time she spent with them. She called her grandson, Chaise Bartlett “her crutch”, and enjoyed attending his school activities as she helped raise him. She liked listening to gospel music and had attended the former Flemington Church of God. In addition to her mother and husband she is survived by: seven children, Lottie L. Moyer, of Grafton, James E. Moyer, of Flemington, Sandy K. Audia and husband Frank, of Grafton, Roy J. Moyer, of Flemington, Homer R. Moyer and wife Tammy, of Meadland, Carl J. Bartlett and life partner Curtis Hutchinson, of Grafton, Michael W. Bartlett, of Simpson; sixteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Violet Teets, of Simpson, and Virginia Smith and husband James, of KY; one half-sister, Myrtle May Reed, of Moatsville; four brothers in law, Roger, Leonard, Wayne, and Michael Alan Bartlett; three sisters in law, Mary Ann Gawthrop, JoAnn Campbell, and Diane Ketterman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father she was preceded in death by: one son Harry Phillip Moyer; three great grandchildren, Sierra Kennedy, Kaleigh Kennedy, and Braydon Bolyard; two sisters, Fannie Drummond, and Catherine McKinney; one half -brother, Olan Merritt; and her father and mother in law, Wayne and Evelyn Bartlett.
The Bartlett family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice Care Corp. of Taylor County, a special thank you goes to caregivers Tressa, Cheryl, and Stephanie. Your care and compassion during this most difficult time is unsurpassed and will not be forgotten.
