Mary E. Teicholz, 61, of Danbury, wife of Lee M. Teicholz, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

Affectionately known by many names, “Mary T.” was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on July 19, 1961, a daughter of the late John and Dolores (Serino) Gallo. She attended Poughkeepsie schools and graduated from Western CT State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Justice and Law Administration.

Mary was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) related to Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) and underwent a bone marrow/stem cell transplant in 2007 and 2018.

Simultaneously and through sheer determination, she continued her advocacy and volunteer work for her community.

Mary served as a Councilwoman of the City of Danbury for ten years from 2003 to 2013. She held board positions for Community Health Charities and the Housing Authority of the City of Danbury.

She published a book entitled “Be Positive to A Plus” which takes one through her journey with MDS, leukemia, and bone marrow transplant.

Mary enjoyed comedy and started taking comedy workshop classes with Christine O’Leary in 2019 and then performed live on stage at the Ridgefield Playhouse.

The founder and organizer of the annual “Walk of Honor”, she was a planning member of the “Veterans Walkway of Honor” at the Danbury War Memorial and most recently, the commemorative veteran banners throughout City Center Danbury.

She was an organizer of multiple bone marrow drives.

A recipient of many awards, Mary was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Danbury Elks Lodge No. 120, “Honored Hero” of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, its “Michael Garil Courage Award” and a guest speaker on behalf of the society.

She was a Danbury Day honoree at the State Capitol in 2019.

In addition to her recognitions and awards, Mary was a former title searcher and a secretary at St. Peter School, Danbury.

In addition to her husband, Lee of thirty-two years, Mary is survived by a son, William Teicholz of Winchester, CT, two sisters Marlene Gallo and her spouse Donna Catt of Shepherdstown, W.VA and Melanie Gallogly of Poughkeepsie, two step-children Matthew Teicholz of Mystic, CT and Melissa Gogel of North Hampton, PA and by two step-grandchildren, Sara and Robert.
