Mary Evelyn Phelps, 84, of Walnut Hill, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012, at her home. Mary was born May 30, 1928, in Marion County, the daughter of Rexford Warren Price and Mary Eva (Telford) Price. She married Robert Phelps on September 1, 1946, and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2006.
She is survived by a son, Danny Phelps and wife Cheryle of Walnut Hill; two daughters: Janeen Stowers and husband Ray of Centralia and Gayla Mooney and husband Bill of Walnut Hill; six grandchildren: Philip Stowers, Eleshia Kirsch and husband Mike, Brandon Mooney, Geoffery Mooney, and wife Lea, Mary Ann Phelps and Jennifer Phelps; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Lucille Ryan. Mary Evelyn taught in 1 Room Schools in Marion County and Jefferson County. She was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Centralia. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, Bible School Director, and Kids Church Director and taught various classes. She served diligently with the Care Ministry at her church. She enjoyed reading her Bible. Most of all she loved her family get-togethers.
