Mary E. McCombs, the daughter of Edward and Wanda (Buckley) Cockerton, was born on July 10, 1941 in Newton, Iowa. She attended Newton Public Schools.
Mary was united in marriage with Dennis McCombs on March 6, 1964 in Unionville, MO. They lived in the Newton area, where Mary worked as the head of the kitchens at both Nelson Manor and Careage of Newton.
Mary died, at the age of 67, on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronnie in 1997; and her brother, David.
Those left to honor Mary’s memory are her husband, Dennis of Melrose; sons, Dennis McCombs of Danbury, CT and Joe McCombs of Newton; her daughter, Annette (Benny) Spears of Newton; six grandchildren: Kim, Tracy, Heather, Holly, Randy, and Christopher; four great-grandchildren; and her two brothers, Robert (Hope) Cockerton and William (Connie) Cockerton, both of Newton.
