In Loving Memory: Mary Dillon Thumann March 16,1930 – June 01, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Grandmother. She has left behind many cherished memories and will be remembered as always having a smile for everyone she met.
Mary was the daughter of Irish immigrants, John and Mary Tully. She grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and moved to Astoria when she married and raised her three children there. She was blessed to share most of her life with her beloved brother Johnny and his wife Nancy who both predeceased her. She later moved to Fair Lawn, NJ to be closer to her family.
Mary worked as a bookkeeper until her mid 70’s where she embraced learning to use a computer and searching the internet for interesting articles or emailing family and friends. Her family all knew to never call her between 7-8 pm because that time was reserved for watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. In recent years, her family also knew to never call her during Bingo games.
Mary will be deeply missed by her children John, Denis, and Mary Ann (Richard). She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Andrew, Megan, and Michael. She leaves behind her nieces and nephews Eileen (Jim), John (Irene), Maryclare (Mike), Neal (Denise), Denis (Ann) and Michael as well as multiple great nieces and nephews.
