Mary Alice Dobbins Dennis died early Friday, June 19, 2015, at home with family at her side in Melbourne, Florida. Mary had been in failing health for a few years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Jane (Keith) Dobbins. Mary was born in Marshall, Michigan on January 17, 1946 and spent her childhood and school years in Battle Creek, Michigan. She is survived by brothers Robert Dobbins (Betty Davis) of Palm Harbor, Florida and Charles Dobbins (Linda) of Warrenville, Illinois. Also surviving are her partner and husband of fifty years, Ronald (Ron) and three children, Mary Christine Galloway (Gregory), Ronald Lee Dennis Jr (Rosanna) and Katherine Faye Smallwood (Kevin). Mary had very close and special relationship with her brothers, nieces, nephew, and each of her seven grandchildren, her Carpenter cousins and all of Ron’s cousins.
Mary graduated from Lakeview High School in 1964. She was involved in the Community Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, the Junior League and an avid golfer at the Battle Creek Country Club. After relocating to Illinois, she again relied on golf to make many new and lasting friendships. In 1995 they moved to Melbourne and retired the following year. She enjoyed travel, especially golfing holidays. Mary attended college to sharpen her computer skills and also held a realtors license in Illinois. She loved to shop and attend art shows where she displayed some of her own creations.
Mary was always able to make us laugh, usually at her own expense. She had a unique way of saying certain words that were way off the mark and often brought us to tears of laughter. Her defense was always, “you know what I mean!”
She was a true sweetheart to all of us and will be greatly missed.
