Sister Mary de Montfort Schexnaydre O.P., a Dominican Sister of Peace died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on Monday, August 24, 2015. She was born in 1930 in Burnside, LA and in 1951 entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary in New Orleans, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace.
She earned a degree from St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans and her MT (ASCP) Certification from Charity Hospital of Medical Technology in New Orleans. She taught in Hammond, Baton Rouge, and Cottonport, LA. She also ministered as a medical technologist at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and at Seventh Ward Hospital in Hammond, LA. For a number of years she served at Rosaryville Spirt Life Center as Housekeeping Supervisor and Minister of Hospitality.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Berthil and Edith Brou Schexnaydre; six brothers, Nolte, Berthil, Jr., Earl, Clyde, Kenneth, and Lyle; four sisters. Edith Bourg, and spouse, Toby Bourg of Donaldsonville and Bianca, Elaine and Kathleen; a niece, Lynette Allen Robert of New Orleans and a nephew, Tab Andrew Schexnaydre of Donaldsonville, a sister-in-law, Barbara Schexnaydre and a brother-in-law, Ruffin LeBlanc.
Sister is survived by a sister, Ione S. LeBlanc of Burnside, LA; brothers, Vernon “Coon” Schexnayder of Gonzales, LA and Dayton Schexnaydre and spouse, Lady Schexnaydre of Burnside, LA. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Agnes, Marie, Ola Mae, and Frances Schexnaydre all of Burnside. Others to miss her are 38 nieces and nephews, 84 great-nieces and nephews and 34 great-great nieces and nephews.
