Mary Daria Donaldson was called to her eternal reward on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 12:30AM after a long illness.
Her family attended to her in her last days and hours Mary was born in a small village outside of Leon de Los Aldama, Guanajuato, Mexico, San Miguel de Allende on December 18, 1911. Mary was a strong advocate for education and sacrificed to provide her sons every opportunity to get an education. Having herself only completed the third grade; she later on received her General Education Diploma at Northern Arizona University and also received her citizenship. As a mother she provided strong and unwavering spiritual guidance and example to her sons.
Mary was very active in many community service organizations including the American Legion, Senior Companions, Guadalupanas, Catholic Daughters of America, and many others. Everyone who came in contact with Mary knew there was something special about her. She was a quiet, humble and unassuming person. Her life was dedicated to and inspired by Our Lady of Guadalupe. Her strength through life and up to the moment of her departure was centered in the Most Holy Rosary. She will be missed. The consolation is, she is with the Virgin Mary and Her Son, Jesus who she served and longed to join.
It is impossible to sum up Mary’s life of giving and caring in such a short space. She wanted her exit from this life to be very private and unannounced. But as in her life of community service, news of her departure seemed to spread across the community.
Mary was preceded in death by her brothers Esiquio, John and her sister, Jesse. She is survived by her two sisters Anna and Lucy; three sons, Joseph Clinton, former Mayor of Flagstaff, George David, and John Ronald; a step-son, Robert Claude; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
