Mary C. Evans
On January 04, 2010, a host of angels escorted Mary Estelle Cooper Evans to her eternal home.
With everlasting gratitude for her life, her labor, the things she taught, the love she gave; inspiration she bestowed, set aside this day to remember Mary Evans.
We remember her smile, her dedication, her unyielding devotion to her family and friends, and her strong desire to always extend a helping hand.
Mary enjoyed life!
She made friends easily, enjoyed conversing with others and had the ability to communicate with persons of all ages.
Her favorite pastime was reading.
As a young child, Mary accepted Christ and was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church Lynnhaven and later moved to New Hope Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by one brother Preston Cooper, and one sister Margaret Searles and a great-grandson Sean O. Evans.
Mary was born on May 17, 1928 to the late Elijah and Mary Dinah Cooper.
She received her education in the Princess Ann County Public School System.
On April 27, 1944, she was united in holy matrimony to her husband, Royal Stokes Evans, Sr., who also preceded her in death.
From this union the Lord blessed them with nine children.
Her legacy of love and memory will live forever in the hearts of her children, Betty White (Henry), Cheverly, MD, Royal Jr. (Bertha), of Virginia Beach, Johnny of Norfolk, VA, Linda Richards (Jerome) of Sicklerville, NJ, Douglas (Vivian) of Virginia Beach, Tonie Holloman of Virginia Beach, Sharon Tate (Clifton) of Chesapeake, Janice McFadden (Alfred) of Cherry Hill, NJ, Christopher (Ellen) of Virginia Beach, and a step-daughter Delores Fitzgerald (Leon) of Virginia Beach.
She is also survived by one sister Elizabeth Hodge (Ray) of Pennsauken, NJ, 33 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
She also leaves two sisters-in-law Betty Anderson of Uniondale, NY, and Delores Morton of Salisbury, MD.
