Mrs. Mary Lee “Doll” Collins, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on Thursday,January 27, 2022.

Mrs. Mary Lee Collins, affectionately called “Doll,” was born March 18, 1925, in Tallahassee, Florida to John and Cora Hayes. Our family Matriarch was blessed with 96 wonderful years of life.

At an early age, Mary’s family relocated to Tampa where she attended local schools. Most notably, the historic St. Peter Claver Catholic School where coincidentally, some of her great-grandchildren went on to attend as well. Mary retired from employment with the Hillsborough County Public Schools system to become a full-time caregiver for her mother, Cora. She then went on to become a caregiver for her husband, Leon, as well as other family members. Mary was always there to love and take care of others in their time of need–something that her family will always remember and cherish. She will be greatly missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Collins; parents, John Hayes, Sr., and Cora Leon-Hayes; brother, John Hayes, Jr.; sister, Ollie Bell Hayes; andeldest son, Julius L. Daniels, Jr.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her long life, sons, Claude Johnson (Gail) of San Diego, CA, Earnest Johnson, and Alvin Johnson, both of Tampa; grandchildren, Ingrid, Claude, Jr., Tia (Robert), Rona (Luther), Pricilla, Gloria, Teron (Tanisha), Anthony, Alvin Jr., Andre, Danielle, Renee, Theresa, and was blessed with thirty-one great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
