Mary Cody, 84, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Friday evening at the Oakland Manor, Oakland, IA.
Mary Geneva Ann Cody was born to George Francis Lynch and Barbara Bridget Higgins on July 2, 1921, on a farm near Grand Junction, Iowa.
She graduated from Grand Junction High School. On August 9, 1939, she married George Edward Cody and lived on a farm near Grand Junction. They later moved to Jefferson and after the death of her husband she moved to Atlantic to be closer to her family.
Mary was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. Church was very important to her and she had quite a collection of rosaries. Mary loved flowers and she would be in her flower garden taking care of her begonias and roses or watching the birds fly in and out.
Surviving Mary is one son, Francis Cody and his wife, Marilyn of rural Griswold, Iowa; one daughter, Rose Frey and her husband, Joe of Crossville, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, Rich Cody and his wife Ann of Griswold, Iowa, Ron Cody of Omaha, Nebraska, Michaele Chappell and her husband David of Omaha, Nebraska, Randy Cody and his wife Lynn of Carson, Iowa, Rick Frey and his wife Joellen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Don Frey and his wife, Delene of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Mary Jo Frey of Nashville, Tennessee; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Betty Schatz and her husband Vern of Chicago, Illinois, Theresa Lawler and her husband Robert and Georgia Ragole all of Omaha, Nebraska; 1 brother, John Lynch of Omaha, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; husband; sisters, Coletta Cody, Bernice Faye and Patricia Lynch; and her brothers, Paul Lynch and Gene Lynch. Paul was lost at sea when the USS Wasp was hit by a torpedo as he was in defense of our country and freedom.
