Following graduation in 1950, she began a long work career that included varied jobs and was interrupted intermittently by marriage and children.  In late 1950 she met and was swept off her feet by J.E.(Jay) Thompson whom she married on August 12, 1951.  In 1952 the first of four boys, Rick was born, followed by Jim in 1954, David in 1956 and Gary in 1960.  Mary remained a stay at home mom for many years until the boys all were in school and she reentered the workforce.   In August of 1970, Mary found her true professional calling when she went to work for the Bank of Idaho.  She remained with the bank for 25 years through its many ownership transitions.  She retired in 1995 and spent the next several years traveling around the country with her beloved Jay on their Honda Goldwing motorcycle.  After many two-wheeled adventures, they traded the motorcycle for a boat and spent the next years traveling and fishing.
