Mary Campbell Dickson died peacefully on October 15th in South Hadley, MA, at the age of June 17, 1923 in Springfield, MA, Mary graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1940. She then worked as a civilian for the U.S. Military during World War II, where she met the love of her life, William Joseph Dickson. Mary and Bill married in San Antonio, TX in 1945. They were married for 66 and Bill settled in New Canaan, CT to raise their family as Bill worked for General Electric in NYC. They then moved to Nashville, TN for Bill to help establish the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. It was there that Mary immersed herself in the Nashville and Vanderbilt culture of the arts, volunteerism, social outreach for the poor and vulnerable, as well as involvement and support of such organizations as Vanderbilt Medical Center, Cheekwood, TN Herb Society and Catholic Diocese of lived in Knoxville, TN prior to moving to Loomis Village in South Hadley, summered at “the cottage,” her lake house in New Hartford, CT for the last 51 years. Mary loved to share this magical place with friends and family, both new and old. It was there that many people enjoyed the love, peace, laughter and healing of Mary and Bill’s presence and was incredibly crafty. She was a tole painter, enjoyed pottery, stitchery and quilting. She has left many handmade treasures and wrapped all her grandchildren in “Nanna Blankets,” quilts made by hand with love in every was known throughout her life as a woman of unconditional love, hospitality, creativity and devout was predeceased by her husband Bill, her oldest son John Dickson and her sister Margaret is survived by her sister: Joyce Desmond; her children: Susan Dickson Moyer and husband Ronald Moyer, Paul Dickson and wife Maureen Dickson, Mark Dickson and wife Diane Dickson, James Dickson and wife Leann, and John’s wife MaryAnn Dickson; her grandchildren: Amanda York and husband Timothy York, Meredith Lewis and husband William Lewis III, Hilary Brown and husband Daniel Curtiss, Paul Joseph Dickson, David Campbell Dickson, Emily Ruth Dickson and Kathleen Dickson; her great-grandchildren: Keeley York, Mia York, Liam York and William Lewis IV.
