Mary Ruth Buenzli passed peacefully to join our Lord July 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born June 1, 1916, in Boaz, Alabama. She was number four of the seven children of J.W. and Mary Frances Nixon. The family moved to north Florida and eventually settled in Gainesville. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Jacob Buenzli, while he was a student at the University of Florida. During WWII Jake was stationed at the U. S. Naval Oceanographic Office in Washington, D.C. After the war he remained there and the young family moved north to join him. Through the years the family divided its time between Washington and Florida. During these years Ruth was mainly the guardian of the home front while Jake served the Navy through-out the world; however, she did find time to teach elementary school for several years.
Ruth is survived by her son Edward and wife Happy, her daughter Gail and husband Wayne, three granddaughters, Kim, Brooke and Tara, their husbands, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
