Mary Berg has gone to “Las Vegas” on September 17, 2017 to join her soldier boy, best blind date and husband of 61 years, Roy Berg.

She was born in Linneus, Missouri in 1920, the oldest daughter of Clarence and Anna Hoover.  After her mother’s tragic death when Mary was 6, she and her 3 siblings were raised by nuns in New Mexico.  Her favorite childhood memories were summers and holidays spent at her grandparents house in Bellville, Texas where she was able to finish high school.  After graduation with the true grit that was to see her through her whole life, she put herself through nursing school at St. Pauls in Dallas, Texas and nurse anesthesia school at Barnes in St. Louis, Missouri.  Upon completion she proudly began her career in Dallas during WWII where she met her Army Air Corp husband on a blind date – she was so happy he was so handsome.

Thereafter, they relocated to the Washinton DC area for his law practice, to raise 5 children and to continue her career.

Her love of life was a joy to behold, she was always current on geopolitical events and did not shy away from strongly held opinions.  When she finally had some free time she took up golf, bridge, travel and the Ipad.  But her first love and priority were family: 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren – her tribe.

She was predeceased in 2004 by her kind, patient and supportive husband of 61 years LeRoy E. Berg.  She is survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters and nephew: Becky Day (Graeme King) of Brattleboro, Vt., Patricia Van Vonderen (Bob) of Satellite Beach, Fl., Christopher Berg (Wendy) of Titusville, Fl., Timothy Berg (Karen Blumberg) Brattelboro, Vt.,  Carolyn Goodmon (Randy) Titusville, Fl and nephew, Mike Hoover (Jeana) Rocklin, CA.  She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren: Chris Day, April Harkness, Jessica Riley, Sara Donovan, Scott Van Vonderen, Philip Van Vonderen, Max Van Vonderen, Jonathan Berg, Andrew Berg and Ben Berg.  And finally, she is survived by her 6 great grandchildren: Casey Manning, Elizabeth Day, Miles Schaefer, Emma Day, Alex Day and Ansley Donovan.

She was loved by all and will be terribly missed!
