Mary B. Slabaugh, 99, of Elkhart, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday (June 16, 2009) in Riverside Village in Elkhart.
She was born Oct. 28, 1909, in Elkhart to Edward C. and Pauline (Shaw) Borneman. On April 9, 1944, she married C. Whitney Slabaugh in Elkhart. He died March 17, 1998.
She is survived by two sons, C. Whitney Slabaugh Jr. of Minnesota and Carl L. (Jane) Slabaugh of Elkhart; and two stepgrandsons. One brother, Edward Borneman Jr., and one sister, Marg Stringfellow, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Slabaugh was a homemaker and worked at First National Bank in Elkhart during World War II. She graduated in 1927 from Elkhart High School and attended Ward Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and a member of Tri Kappa and St. John’s Episcopal Church Women. Her former memberships include the Four Arts Club and St. John’s Altar Guild. She had volunteered with Elkhart General Hospital and Meals on Wheels.
