Mary Anne Jakubowski, age 79, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on July 18, 2018 near her home in Viera, FL.
She was born Mary Anne Leggett to Florance and Veronica Leggett in Dunkirk, NY on January 12, 1939. Mary Anne attended Dunkirk High School and Brockport State Teachers College. She then also graduated with honors from State University of New York at Fredonia with a Degree in Education. She received her teacher certification to teach K-8, and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in English Education from Towson (MD) State University. During her teaching career she enjoyed teaching kindergarten the most, and after teaching at various schools in New York and Maryland, finally retired from Parole Elementary School, Annapolis, MD in 1993.
She married Harry S. Jakubowski on July 8, 1961, and gave birth to three children, John Christopher, Douglas Alan, and Kathleen Lynn. They moved from Dunkirk, NY to Glen Burnie Park, MD, then Annapolis, MD before retiring in Viera, FL. In addition to her teaching career, the joy of her life revolved around being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mary Anne loved to read and was an avid Scrabble player. She was a music and art lover, and enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She also cherished her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of St.
Mary Anne struggled for 40+ years with multiple sclerosis. She had a positive, uncomplaining outlook, and dealt with the disease with grace and dignity. She once told her daughter that she had a recurring dream where she could ‘fly.’ We’re not sure if this was because of her physical limitations, or otherwise. But we like to think that she’s truly ‘flying’ now, experiencing total freedom in heaven. This falls in line with her love for birds, and she often called her children and grandchildren, affectionately– ‘birds’!
