Mary Anna Stewart Torbert
Mary Anna Stewart Torbert, age 80, of Athens, GA, formerly of Greensboro, GA died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA. Born in Taliaferro County on January 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Sammie N. Stewart and Gladys Morgan Stewart. In 1952 she graduated from Greensboro High School and attended Berry College. For twenty-six years she worked as the clerk for the City of Greensboro retiring January 26, 1999. Mrs.
Mary Anna was preceded in death by her husband Robert Jackson “Bobby” Torbert in July of 1986; son Stewart W. Torbert; and a brother, Royce Stewart. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Alligood (Jeff) of Bishop, GA; son Glenn Torbert (Patricia) of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren, Brian Alligood (Courtney), Christina Stephens (Joe), Katie Torbert, Jamie Torbert (Taylor), great grandchildren Madison and Collin Alligood and “almost” daughter and granddaughter Marty Nipper Sirmans and Sarah Beth McMillan.
