Mary Ann Spence, 83, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was born on March 10, 1937 in South Bend to the late Walter and Helen (Monahan) Hawblitzel. She married Robert A. Spence who preceded her in death. Mary Ann is survived by one daughter, Julie Morris of Winchester, Kentucky, two sons, Thomas A. (Melissa) Denunzio of South Bend, Indiana, Michael (Eric) Denunzio of Bloomington, Indiana, two grandchildren, Colleen and Sarah Denunzio, one sister, Kathleen (Richard) Arnold of Vermillion, Ohio, one brother, Paul (Loretta) Hawblitzel of Camarillo, California. She also enjoyed her relationships with her several nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann earned her undergraduate degree from IU Bloomington and her Masters in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University at South Bend. She worked for over twenty years as an Academic Advisor at Notre Dame where she enjoyed working with student-athletes. She made lifelong relationships with students, coaches and peers with whom she stayed in touch for years. In her retirement she enjoyed volunteering with adult learners and dedicated many hours to the Tawny Lake Home Owners Association. She was a lifelong lover of higher education, learning and her family. She was also an enthusiastic golfer and bridge player for many years.
