Mary Ann Elizabeth Love of Glen Burnie, MD, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated public servant passed away on January 27, 2022. Mary Ann was born February 21, 1940 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Loftus of West Pittston, PA. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Josef Love, of Glen Burnie, MD and her sons, Eric Love and his wife, Teresa of Severna Park, MD and Brian Love and his wife Susan of Glenelg, MD. She was a devoted grandmother to Patrick Love and his wife Sarah of Edgewater, MD, Alex Love of Rochester, NY, Benjamin Love of Glen Burnie, MD, Sean Love of Alexandria, VA, both Liam Love and Kate Love of Glenelg, MD, and Stephanie and Scott France of Bel Air, MD, and two great grandchildren, Sophia and Kingston France of Bel Air, MD.
Mary Ann was dedicated to helping people in her community and served as legislative aide to the Anne Arundel County Council, from 1974 to 1982. She was a Community Service Specialist for the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging from 1982 to 1994. She won a seat on the Democratic Central Committee and in 1993 was appointed to the House of Delegates representing District 32. She was elected four more terms and served as Maryland State Delegate from 1993 to 2015. During this time, Mary Ann acted as the Deputy Majority Whip and was involved in many committees. She was honored as Legislator of the Year, given the Presidential Award of Excellence, and was the first woman selected as the Chair of the Anne Arundel County Delegation.
As a leader in her state and community she was recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2005. She was also recognized as the recipient of the Fannie Lou Hamer, Martin Luther King Jr., and the Casper R. Taylor awards.
