Mary Ann Keim, age 85, wife of Jackson M. Keim one month shy of 65 years, passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on February 19, 2017, at Peppi’s House Hospice. Never one to shy away from a good conversation, Mary Ann managed to find something in common with almost everybody she met.
Mary Ann and Jack married in 1952 and lived in several places on the East coast. They moved to Arizona in 1968 and never looked back. Since 1968, they lived in Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tucson, and Sedona. They also loved to travel in their motorhome, especially throughout the West.
Of all the places Mary Ann lived and visited, Flagstaff, Arizona, was her favorite. She loved the San Francisco Peaks, the aroma of the Ponderosa pines, the snow, the small town atmosphere, the library, the local native American history, and well, just about everything Flagstaff.
Mary Ann was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Windber, Pennsylvania. She earned a degree in dramatic arts (Bachelor of Arts and Letters, College of Liberal Arts, 1955) from Penn State University. Mary Ann was active in her local churches over the years, and was a school board member in the Liverpool Central School District in New York.
Mary Ann was a loving and proud mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Her passion was her family and her marriage with Jack. She loved to cook, laugh, and have fun. She also loved reading and traveling to Kauai. She was an incredible influence on her entire family.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Jackson Keim of Tucson and Flagstaff, Arizona; her son, Karl Keim (Suzi) of Flagstaff, Arizona; her three daughters: Karin Keim of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Kim Frysinger (Jeff) of Holden, Massachusetts; Keri Meredith (Phillip) of Menlo Park, California; she is also survived by her brother, John S. “Jack” Kitzmiller, Jr. of Hubert, North Carolina; she is survived by eight grandchildren: Ian Engel (Nicole), Amy Holland (Robert), Jonathan Keim (Sara), Kait Keim (David Van Eck), Michael Frysinger (Smriti), Daniel Frysinger (Shelby), Matthew Frysinger (Brittany), and Cathia Meredith; she is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, plus one great-great-grandchild (and one on the way).
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, John Stanley Kitzmiller and Helen Johnson Kitzmiller.
